Length: Up to 50cm overall
Colour: Adults bright green
Range: Most of Balkan peninsula, Greece, Crete
Food: Insects, small mammals and smaller lizard species.





The Balkan green lizard, (lacerta trilineata), is the largest lizard occuring on Crete and, including its fine, long tail, can be quite impressive.

Although the adults are almost always a very vivid green, juveniles and hatchlings are brown with three or five light, yellowish stripes running down their backs.

You may come across these lizards in many parts of Crete, but more often than not, they hear you coming and are gone before you know it!
